RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Rhinelander police arrested four people after a pursuit that included shots fired at officers on Friday.
Officers were dispatched to Hodag Park near the boat landing at 1:48pm for a report of males shooting a firearm out over Boom Lake. The subjects left the scene in a red Chevy Cruze as officers arrived, and a pursuit was initiated.
Police terminated the pursuit as it entered the downtown district to ensure community safety. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle again near Highway 17 and County P and initiated pursuit again, but it was terminated a second time when the vehicle re-entered the city on Lincoln Street.
Officers continued to follow, as the vehicle made several turns in an attempt to evade them. The pursuit resumed when safe and proceeded east on Lincoln Street and out of town east on County P.
Shots were fired from the vehicle at law enforcement during the chase. The vehicle then turned east onto Highway 8 and continued at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle slowed down, allowing officers to perform a PIT maneuver on Highway 8 near Beaver Creek Road. Four suspects were taken into custody without further incident. None of their names have been released.
The situation remains under investigation.
