MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers made a stunning trade on Wednesday night, sending one of their best minor league pitchers to the American League.
According to a post on X by team insider Adam McCalvy, the Brewers are trading relief pitcher Jacob Waguespack to the Detroit Tigers for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
Waguespack, who was originally chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012, has spent the majority of his career in the minors, but he has been putting up career-high numbers for Nashville this season, with a 1.66 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 16 bullpen appearances.
In 31 major league bullpen appearances with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019 and the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024, Waguespack’s ERA was 5.11.
On Tuesday, the Brewers re-signed righty Jake Woodford to a minor league contract and assigned him to AAA-Nashville after he went unclaimed on waivers and elected free agency following the Brewers’ acquisition of righty Joel Kuhnel from the A’s last week, who will replace lefty DL Hall, who is on the 15-day injured list.
