MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – In recent days, the Miami Heat have had a suspected challenger in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, but according to a new report, the rumors look to be just that.
According to the Boston Globe’s NBA writer Gary Washburn, the Boston Celtics are not all-in on trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo and would like to keep star guard Jaylen Brown, despite speculations that Brown wants to be traded to a team where he can be the main star.
Washburn added that if Boston can keep Brown while acquiring Giannis, a deal between the two Eastern Conference powerhouses may still be possible. Boston could send the Bucks point guard Derrick White, shooting guard Baylor Scheierman, forward Sam Hauser, center Neemias Queta, and a package of draft picks, including the 27th overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
The rumors of Giannis’ trade to Boston come as ESPN’s Brian Windhorst claimed on Tuesday that Milwaukee isn’t “in love” with the Miami Heat’s current offer, and GM Jon Horst and the team’s ownership group are still discussing trade packages with other teams.
Windhorst added that Giannis “absolutely wants to go to the Heat” and that the Celtics have become “uncomfortable” with Giannis’s representatives trying to have a “seat at the table during this process.”
In Miami, Antetokounmpo potentially would form a powerful frontcourt combo alongside three-time All-Star center Bam Adebayo, as The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Stein Line NBA insider Jake Fischer reported over the weekend that Miami has offered Milwaukee Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jamie Jaquez Jr., either Pelle Larsson or Kasparas Jakucionis, and multiple first-round picks, including the 13th overall pick in next week’s 2026 NBA Draft, for Giannis.
