WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Junction City man facing charges for recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct, and obstructing an officer has been sentenced as part of a plea deal.
Donnell Crume entered a no contest plea to a pair of felony counts for recklessly endangering safety. In exchange, several charges were dismissed, including misdemeanor disorderly conduct, hit-and-run, and criminal damage to property. He was then found not guilty due to mental disease or defect.
Charges stem from an August incident along Interstate 39 in Marathon County. Officers found Crume wearing pajama pants, a face covering, and a bathrobe while waving a baseball bat after a crash on the highway, which he admitted to causing. He told officers that he thought his fiancé had been kidnapped and claimed the occupants of the multiple vehicles were “shape shifters.”
Officers later found Crume had a criminal history, including charges of disorderly conduct and battery. He also received a traffic citation for unsafe passing on the right.
His sentence includes an eight-year conditional release through the Department of Health Services, meaning the 55-year-old’s behavior will be monitored closely while he remains in the community. During that time, he will not be able to possess any firearms or body armor and must take all medication as prescribed.
