GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers are denying rumors surrounding the team having trade discussions with the Arizona Cardinals about All-Pro pass rusher Josh Sweat.
According to GM Brian Gutekunst, who spoke to the media on Tuesday morning, the Packers have not spoken to Arizona about any trades, saying, “No one from our organization has had a conversation about Josh Sweat with anyone at Arizona. That’s coming out of thin air; someone is making stuff up, because that never happened.”
The Packers and Cardinals were reportedly having trouble agreeing on a deal for Josh Sweat during the summer, according to multiple NFL insiders. Green Bay was reportedly willing to give the Cardinals a player and a third-round pick in exchange for Sweat, but the Cardinals preferred a second-round pick.
Despite only keeping four edge rushers on the original 53-man roster—Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Brenton Cox Jr., and rookie 4th-round pick Dani Dennis-Sutton—Brian Gutekunst stated he is satisfied with the team’s pass rusher depth. Nyjalik Kelly, a rookie, and veteran Arron Mosby were kept on the practice squad.
