Michael Klingenberg
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Trial dates have been rescheduled for a former State Patrol Lieutenant accused of possessing child pornography.
Michael Klingenberg was set to go to trial later this month, but court records show it has been pushed back to February 2027.
Investigators say the 63-year-old had more than 120 pornographic images on his cloud drive, including some depicting children as young as four years old. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children flagged some of the materials in the drive, sparking the investigation.
All told, he faces ten felony counts for possession of child pornography. Misdemeanor counts of 4th degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct have also been tied to the case. Those stem from a separate complaint.
A jury status conference is scheduled for January 6th. Klingenberg faces 25 years in the state prison system on each felony count. He is free after posting a $75,000 bond; conditions include no contact with anyone under the age of 18 and heavily restricted internet access.
