ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU) — Owners of 4 Seasons Golf in Rib Mountain are teaming up with the Village of Rothschild on a $3.1 million indoor/outdoor golf facility near the Cedar Creek Mall.
Shane Saari says they’ve outgrown their current four-simulator setup. “We’ve kind of exhausted what we can do there. We want something bigger and better for the Wausau area. There will just be more opportunity.”
That means room for corporate events, family gatherings, and indoor and outdoor golf leagues. The four current simulators will make the move to the location along with 20 outdoor hitting bays. They’ll future the same technology used at Pin Seekers or Top Golf locations.
“We’re putting in what those venues have [on a smaller scale]. They’ve got two or three stories on theirs, we’re putting in one story with 20 bays across. They’ll all be heated for year-round [play,]” said Saari.
They’re also planning a full bar and a variety of food offerings. Future expansion plans could include more outdoor bays, a mini-golf course, and pickleball courts.
“We would love for [users] to make us have to expand,” added Saari.
Rothschild Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle says it brings a new dynamic to the region. “[It’s something] that we don’t currently have. Something any community would be excited to be a part of. It’s a great asset to add [because] all age groups can enjoy it. Not just one specific age group.
“Our village board and staff have been eager to make something like this happen because it’s not just for the Village of Rothschild. It’s for the greater Wausau area,” added VanDeWalle.
Construction could begin in the next few weeks, with completion expected in mid-December to early January. Saari is also working to expand their staff, expecting to add more part-time and full-time positions. That could include a bar manager and a PGA Pro, who could provide golf lessons.
The project is located in a tax increment district. VanDeWalle says the TIF fund will provide $75,000 up-front payment and $468,000 in incentives after the project is completed.
