BELMONT, WI (WSAU) — The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a driver who struck a pedestrian and fled the scene early May 4 at the intersection of Stratton Lake Road and Fountain Lake Avenue in the Town of Belmont.
Officers said a 27-year-old man had stopped to clear debris on Stratton Lake Road at about 5:30 AM. As he was working, a second vehicle turned onto the road and into his vehicle, pinning him between the two.
The drive backed up and left the scene, driving south into Waupaca County. The victim suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Investigators describe the striking vehicle as a dark blue or black two-door sedan similar to an early 2000s Chevrolet Cavalier. The car has black rims and a white sticker on the driver’s side rear bumper.
The driver is believed to be a male with short hair. Anyone with information about the vehicle is asked to contact the Portage County Sheriff’s Office at (715) 346-1400 or Det. Sgt. Blake Porter at (715) 346-1494.
