MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon, despite struggling to get a hit for much of the game.
Christian Yelich blasted a key game-tying RBI base hit in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring Garrett Mitchell and moving Sal Frelick into scoring position before scoring on an error by Cardinals shortstop Mayson Winn to take the lead.
Aaron Ashby picked up another win, improving his season record to 9-0 after throwing two innings and allowing no runs, while Dustin May lost and dropped to 3-6 despite tossing seven innings and allowing only one earned run.
Brewers closer Abner Uribe did not pitch on Wednesday after manager Pat Murphy criticized his end-of-game celebration on Tuesday, saying, “It’s just unacceptable. I don’t know what got over him…But that kind of thing, that’s just not how we do things. I was embarrassed by it. And you know, why are we doing it? 6-0 game.”
Instead, Trevor Megill recorded his sixth save of the season, allowing only one hit to the Cardinals in the top of the ninth.
The Brewers will return to action on Friday night, traveling to Houston to take on the slumping Astros. Coleman Crow will start for Milwaukee, and Kai-Wei Teng will pitch for Houston.
