PINE LAKE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -According to a Facebook post from the Pine River Fire Department, Firefighters responded to a hot water heater fire caused by a lightning strike on Hwy 17 North near Royalwood Lane on Wednesday morning.
The fire started just before 8am as storms moved through the area, according to a press release. The homeowner was able to knock down the fire before crews arrived.
Truck 1 arrived on scene with light smoke visible and the area near the water heater smoldering. Fire was contained to the area surrounding the water heater.
Firefighters extinguished the smoldering hot spots while checking for any further extension. Pelican FD was initially dispatched for automatic aid but canceled once Pine Lake Fire Department personnel arrived on scene.
Firefighters were on scene for approximately one hour.
