WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A Wisconsin Rapids man is in jail after a vehicle chase ended with a PIT maneuver and a short foot chase near the intersection of Riverview Expressway and Chase Street.
According to a news release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, it started when officers tried to pull the suspect over for speeding in the Town of Grand Rapids. The suspect sped up and passed the vehicle ahead of him on the right side of the road, sparking a chase that passed through Wisconsin Rapids and into the Town of Rudolph.
The suspect reached speeds of 100 MPH and made several turns, attempting to lose the officers. The chase returned to Wisconsin Rapids, where officers deployed a pursuit intervention technique, or PIT maneuver, to disable his vehicle. He fled on foot before officers arrested him.
He was identified as 20-year-old Yeblin Alvarez Valerio, who is now facing multiple counts including felony fleeing, possession of THC, and recklessly endangering safety. He was also issued multiple traffic citations. Court action against him is pending.
Police said the vehicle he passed at the start of the case was driven by his ex-girlfriend, who they say he had been chasing at the time.
